Better Breakfasts for a Better Body and Brain!

Healthy Breakfast recipes

Everyone has been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I think one thing that many of us miss is why it is so important to start the day off with a healthy and hearty meal. Here are some great reasons why you should be eating breakfast: it helps memory, improves mood, increases energy, helps to maintain weight or even to help lose it.

Even if we do find the time and motivation to make breakfast, most of the foods advertised as “healthy” are actually anything but healthy, full of artificial sweeteners, artificial colors and bad fats. What you eat for breakfast sets the tone for your day. It is equally important to eat something as it is to make sure that it is a healthy. Here are some of our favorite ways to start the day off right!

Quinoa is a great source of protein, which means that quinoa is a great way to get energy. Not to mention that because it is fiber and vitamin packed, it will make you feel better inside and out. Our favorite way to use quinoa as a morning starter is with this Sweet Breakfast Quinoa. It has everything you need to get your day going amazingly, including pure maple syrup, dried apricots, and shaved almonds (and uses only healthy sugars, as you may recall from our sugar blog)!

Greek Yogurt is particularly beneficial due to its probiotics. The microorganisms found in greek yogurt are the same that live naturally in your gut. Greek Yogurt can be particularly beneficial to keeping your digestive tract working normally. It is also high in protein and many vitamins that we tend to get not enough of in our regular diets. One of these vitamins is iodine, which helps to keep excess weight off as it helps stabilize metabolism. Our favorite recipe that use greek yogurt as a main ingredient is Muesli Toast with Yogurt Spread, Hazelnuts and Honey. This recipe is the perfect naturally sweet but filling way to start the day!

Peanut Butter is a great source of energy. It is fiber and protein filled and fills you up faster than most other foods and keeps you full for longer. It’s packed with beneficial vitamins and minerals and contains all the heart healthy fats your body needs to survive. It might even help your memory improve! There have been studies that suggest people who eat more niacin, a B vitamin, are less likely to develop Alzheimer's. Peanut butter can be used for any meal at any time during the day, but it is a great way to start the day! Our favorite way to start any day is with PB&J French Toast. With it’s gooey insides, toasted outside and awesome flavor combinations, this is a great way to reinvent a classic!
